THE EQUINE BLACKLIST

Who Are the Proponents of Horse Slaughter?

The Unwanted Horse Coalition - The Unwanted Horse Coalition publically states that they are neutral when it comes to the issue of horse slaughter. However, several large, well-funded pro-slaughter organizations sit as members, such as the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, AVMA, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and many others. There are a handful of members that are against horse slaughter on the committee.

Common Horses Sense - This is the clearest example of a pro-slaughter group running under the auspices of equine care. Take a long look at the supporters, you will find the majority are cattle ranchers and beef industry advocates, calling themselves the Horse Welfare Coalition. Their website is full of gross misrepresentations of how horses are treated during transport and slaughter, which the Humane Society Video clearly contradicts their claims.

American Quarter Horse Association - Prolific in over breeding, the AQHA continues to be the strongest advocate for killing their horses. Enough so that the American Paint Horse Association and the Appaloosa Horse Club have all spoken out that they are in favor of this brutal killing process. In addition, one of the most vocal advocates for horse slaughter is the Tennessee Walking Horse Association, see why.

The Latest on the Equine Blacklist to join opposition is the Wisconson State Horse Council. They are clear to point out that their concern rests in the language of the Bill, but if you look closer, you can see many representatives from the Quarter Horse Association, Tennessee Walking Horse Association and DVM's. However, as we know, those on the Board of Directors speak for Pro-Slaughter Groups.
